Classic meme text follows a simple convention: bold, all-capital letters in a thick sans-serif font (traditionally Impact), colored white with a heavy black outline so the words stay readable no matter what's happening in the photo behind them. Text usually sits in two places — a line across the very top of the image and a line across the very bottom — leaving the middle of the photo untouched. This tool recreates that look on any photo you upload.

This tool works with any photo you upload rather than shipping a library of pre-made "meme templates." Many of the most recognizable meme images are copyrighted photographs or screenshots, and reproducing them isn't something this site does. Instead, use your own pictures — pet photos, screenshots, reaction shots, whatever you've got — and add the text yourself. Is my image uploaded to a server anywhere?

No. Everything happens locally in your browser using the HTML Canvas API. Your photo is loaded into the page, drawn onto a canvas with your text on top, and the final image is generated and downloaded — all without ever leaving your device or being sent anywhere.

Why does the font look slightly different than other memes I've seen?

The classic meme font is Impact, which is installed on most Windows and Mac desktops but isn't guaranteed to be present on every device, especially some mobile phones and Linux systems. This tool requests Impact first and falls back to Haettenschweiler, then a bold narrow Arial, if Impact isn't available. The fallback fonts are visually close but not always pixel-identical, so your meme may render with very slightly different letterforms depending on the device viewing it. The text you type, its size, color, and position will always be the same — only the exact typeface may vary.

Can I make a meme with only top text or only bottom text?

Yes. Both fields are optional — leave one blank and only the other will be drawn onto the image. That's useful for photos that only need a single caption, like a bottom-only punchline or a top-only setup line.

What image formats can I upload, and what can I download?

You can upload PNG, JPG, or WebP images. When you're ready to save your meme, you can download it as either PNG (better for sharp text and transparent-friendly formats) or JPG (smaller file size, no transparency). The output is generated at your original photo's full resolution regardless of how large or small the preview appears on your screen.

Can I move the text somewhere other than the top and bottom?
