Create a printable set of classroom hall passes in seconds. Choose which pass types you need — restroom, nurse, office, library, water fountain, locker, or a custom type — pick a color theme and how many fit on a page, then download a ready-to-cut PDF. Track how long a student is out with the Classroom Timer, and if you have a guest teacher covering your room, print an extra stack of passes to leave with the Substitute Teacher Plan.

How to Use the Hall Pass Generator

  1. Enter your name and room number so passes can be traced back to your classroom.
  2. Check off which pass types you need. Add a custom type for anything not listed, like "Front Desk" or "Peer Tutoring."
  3. Set how many copies of each type to print — a good starting point is 3–5 per type per class.
  4. Choose a color theme and a passes-per-page layout based on how you plan to use them (laminated and reused, or single-use paper slips).
  5. Click Generate Hall Passes, review the preview, then Download PDF and cut along the guide lines.

Tips for Managing Hall Passes

Laminate for reuse

Print on cardstock and laminate a small set (one per pass type) that stays by the door all year, rather than reprinting single-use slips constantly.

Time the trip

Start the Classroom Timer when a student leaves so you have a quick reference for how long they've been gone if you need to check in with the office.

Color-code by destination

Assign a different color theme to each pass type — blue for restroom, green for library, yellow for nurse — so hallway monitors can identify a pass's purpose at a glance.

Keep a sign-out log alongside passes

Passes control hallway movement, but a written or digital sign-out sheet gives you a record of frequency and duration if a pattern needs to be addressed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are digital or paper hall passes better?

Both work well. Digital hall pass apps are convenient for schools with 1:1 devices and centralized hallway monitoring, but a laminated physical pass requires no technology, never runs out of battery, and is instantly recognizable to any staff member in the hallway.

How many passes should I print per type?

Three to five copies per pass type is typically enough for a single classroom, since only one pass of each type should be in circulation at a time. Print more if you teach several class periods and want a fresh set per class.

Can I add blank name and time fields?

Yes — every generated pass includes blank lines for the student's name, the date, and time out/time in so you have a quick record of each use.

Can I reuse the same passes all year?

Yes. Print on cardstock and laminate for a durable, reusable set. Use a dry-erase marker to fill in the name and time, then wipe clean after each use.

Is any of my information saved?

No. Everything is generated in your browser and nothing is uploaded to a server.
