  2. Add income categories (salary, freelance, rental income, etc.) and fill in the Budgeted (planned) and Actual (real) amounts.
  3. Add expense categories (rent, groceries, utilities, etc.) and do the same.
  4. The worksheet calculates row-level differences (Actual − Budgeted) and all section totals in real time.

Budgeted vs. Actual

Tracking both planned and actual amounts lets you spot where spending drifts off track. A positive difference in the Income section means you earned more than planned — great news. A positive difference in the Expenses section means you spent more than planned — worth investigating. Together, the two sections show your overall surplus (income exceeds expenses) or deficit (expenses exceed income).

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my budget data saved?

No data is saved between sessions. This tool is entirely browser-based — everything is cleared when you refresh or close the tab. Download the PDF to keep a permanent record.

How many rows can I add?

You can add as many rows as needed for both income and expenses. The PDF output will expand to fit all rows, so even large detailed budgets will print correctly.

What does the "Difference" column show?

For income rows, a positive difference means you earned more than budgeted (favorable). For expense rows, a positive difference means you spent more than budgeted (unfavorable). Zero means you hit the budget exactly.

Can I print this without downloading a PDF?

Yes — use your browser's built-in print function (Ctrl+P / Cmd+P). The PDF option gives a cleaner, fixed layout, but the page renders reasonably well when printed from the browser too.
