Time Zone Converter

Convert a date and time between any two time zones — or quickly check what time it is right now in another part of the world. All time zones from the IANA database are supported.

Current time in common time zones

How to Use

  1. Select time zones — choose your source and destination time zones from the dropdowns. They default to your local time zone and UTC.
  2. Enter a date and time — the fields default to right now; change them to any date and time you want to convert.
  3. Read the result — the converted time and date appear in the result card, along with the UTC offset for each zone and the hour difference between them.

Use the Swap button to reverse the conversion direction.

Common Time Zone Conversions

From To Typical offset difference
EST (UTC−5) GMT (UTC+0) +5 hours
PST (UTC−8) EST (UTC−5) +3 hours
EST (UTC−5) CET (UTC+1) +6 hours
GMT (UTC+0) IST (UTC+5:30) +5.5 hours
PST (UTC−8) JST (UTC+9) +17 hours
EST (UTC−5) AEST (UTC+10) +15 hours

Offsets shift by ±1 hour during daylight saving time transitions. The converter uses the actual IANA time zone rules, so it always accounts for DST automatically.

Daylight Saving Time

Daylight saving time (DST) moves clocks forward by one hour in spring and back in autumn in most countries that observe it. This means the offset between two time zones changes twice a year.

The converter uses the browser's built-in Intl.DateTimeFormat API, which knows the DST rules for every IANA time zone. The result always reflects the correct offset for the specific date you enter — not just a fixed UTC offset.

Countries that do not observe DST (including Japan, China, India, and most of Africa) have a fixed UTC offset year-round.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does the result show a different date, not just a different time?
When converting across the international date line (e.g. from New York to Tokyo), the local date changes. A Tuesday afternoon in New York can be Wednesday morning in Tokyo. The result card shows both the time and date in each zone.

What is UTC?
UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) is the international time standard. It has no UTC offset (UTC+0) and does not observe daylight saving time. All other time zones are defined as offsets from UTC.

What is the difference between a time zone and a UTC offset?
A UTC offset (like UTC+5:30) is a fixed number. A time zone (like "Asia/Kolkata") is a named region whose offset may change for DST. India Standard Time is always UTC+5:30 because India doesn't observe DST, but "America/New_York" switches between UTC−5 and UTC−4 depending on the time of year.
