Frequently Asked Questions
Will the GIF look exactly like the PNG?
For simple flat-color graphics with few colors, results are usually very close. For complex images with gradients or photography, some color reduction will be visible due to GIF's 256-color limit.
What happens to PNG transparency?
Semi-transparent pixels are composited onto white before conversion, since GIF only supports binary transparency. Fully transparent areas may be converted to binary transparency where the palette allows.
