Convert PNG images to AVIF — a next-generation format that dramatically reduces file sizes while preserving visual quality. AVIF supports transparency, making it a direct improvement over PNG for photos and graphics on supported browsers. All conversion is done locally in your browser.
Your browser does not support encoding images to AVIF format. Please use Chrome 93+ or Firefox 93+ to use this converter. Safari does not currently support AVIF encoding.

.png images.PNG files are lossless, which means they can be very large — especially for photos. AVIF provides a compelling alternative:
For logos, icons, and illustrations with transparency, AVIF is an excellent replacement for PNG on supported browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari 16+).
AVIF encoding requires Chrome 93+ or Firefox 93+. Safari supports displaying AVIF images but does not support encoding them via the Canvas API. Use Chrome or Firefox to run this tool.
Will transparency be preserved when converting PNG to AVIF?
Yes. AVIF supports an alpha channel. If your PNG has a transparent background, it will remain transparent in the AVIF output.
Will I lose quality compared to the original PNG?
PNG is lossless and AVIF is lossy (at quality settings below 100%). At High (85%) quality the difference is negligible for most images. For text-heavy screenshots you may prefer to keep PNG.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API. Your files never leave your device.
