AVIF encoding requires Chrome 93+ or Firefox 93+. Safari supports AVIF display but not encoding via the Canvas API. If you are on Safari, you can use a different browser to encode your images.
Will AVIF look as good as my original JPG?
At High (85%) quality the output will be virtually indistinguishable from the original while being substantially smaller. At lower settings you may notice slight differences in very complex areas.
Does AVIF support transparency?
Yes — AVIF supports an alpha channel, but JPG does not. Converting JPG to AVIF will not add transparency.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs in your browser via the Canvas API. Your files never leave your device.
